Went to buy some fibreglass resin from a local boatbuilder the other day. In his shed there are a set of mouldings for a Stag 28. web page
He built one set to sell as a project before increased orders for a MOBO meant it got back heeled. Anyway the point being they are on Boats and outboards for a very low price. I've seen the mouldings and the quality appears very high indeed. Possible bargain for someone out there? (No link whatsoever).

Around here Perth West Oz there are quie a few different sorts of yacht molds stored away just as the ones you describe.
The bottom has gone out of yacht building partly because of the high price of resin (oil price) and partly because fibreglass boats just last for ever so old boats are a much cheaper alternative.
So the only attraction for building a boat is if it is a dramatically good new design. ie fast new racer.
The molds cost so much to build it is really a shame to see them unloved and unused. So if someone has space to spare and a little cash the purchase of the molds could be a good investment. I know the molds around here have gone for a song compared to original cost. Certainly the boats pictured in the link look really magnificent.

good luck olewill

Hi Olewill. It's not the moulds for sale. It's a finished hull and deck moulding. What I was impressed with was the standard of lay up. even the 'rough' side was beautifully layed up with none of the laminate showing and very heavily laminated, At £3k it looked a pretty good project for someone.

Nice Boats .. Excellent accomodation.. Extremly well built by Salterns who only stopped due to the pressure of cheaper imports and the cost of the hand finished interior .. Seaworthy.. Sail Well .. About 60 were built by Salterns .. Fin & drop keel versions were built..This is the second unfinished moulding that I have heard of that has been stashed away for the last 20 odd years, so I guess Salterns sold off the last mouldings and they never got finished off

This one is brand fire new, apparently the guy bought the moulds with a view to putting it back in production, hence the post. Mike.
