It seems like only last month my boat was serviced but in reality it was coming up for a year ago.

This is my first year on the sea and only the 2nd of owning the boat so apologies for obvious questions.

Should the boat be serviced annually? Leg & Engine?

Also should the anti foul be annual.

And lastly- if it needs doing (which I suspect you'll affirm) - anyone recommend somone - the boat is at Brighton and is a Sea Ray 225.

Many thanks.

I used to do everything every year but after throwing away perfectly good leg gaiters, clean filters and oil with 90% of it's life left in I now:
Oil change every other year
Leg oil check each year and if no sign of water ingress leave it
Impellor change every other year
Gaiters every other year
Anti foul though each year
Filter changes every other year but I treat with soltron every fill.
I do less than 100 hrs per year.
The usual tappet adjustments and air filters as per the book.

I always change the oil and oil filter every autumn as I rarely use the boat over the winter. dirty diesel engine oil can be quite acidic so I always put fresh in over the winter as new oil has preservatives etc. Oil is relatively cheap engine bearings etc are not. I also slaken off any drive belts and pull out the impellors. the rest I do based on hours of use as per volvo etc manuals. I also always keep a spare set of fuel filters and impellors on board.

all IMO

Boat engines should be serviced annually (just find out the cost of a replacement engine and see if that's a bill you would contemplate as good value in comparison to regular maintenance). Also have a think about engine failure somewhere apart from the marina... does that sound fun? Also for re-sale a service record showing a boat has had regular maintenance might not add that much value, but i know if i was looking as 2 similar boats, one that has been maintained and one that has, but every other year I would have no hesitation which I would buy!

Anti-Fouled Annually.... Brighton is a hot marina (water that is!), growth is terrible so certainly taking a few knots off your speed and fuel consumption will suffer.

Gaiters etc... I'm not the expert to answer that as never had an outdrive

as for who.... the only experience I have at Brighton is with Dickies who i think are excellent, they are obviously a brokers, but they have there own engineers and a chap called Dave who does their prep. I can't think they would be rushed off their feet at the moment and might welcome a bit of work on the side??/ worth asking Jan or Russell in the office, or try and find Dave in the yard and see if he wants to do it on the side?

I have my drives serviced every 2 years and the anti foul done at the same time.

Engine bits, every year - can be done with the boat in the water/

We have been doing an oil and filter change every 100 hours, checking belts etc. Impellors as we are on a river last a few months if we are lucky before we suck something up and burn them out so not an issue.

The outdrive and engine will have a major service every two years when the boat is lfited for anti fouling.

ANODES! absolutely bloody right! The main anode on my boat dropped off whilst the hull was being jet washed at the end of October last year, it was new in June the same year.... (decided to disconnect AC earth to DC Neg to help with that), but as I was also advised a PTT Pump for my engine (which sits in the water and would be eaten away just after the anode drops off) is £3500, a lift out, engine service and anode replacement seems good value...
