What does every one normally pay to get a service, of engines and out drive legs, including lift out and propes removed. We have been quated what we think is a lot for this in the hamble area. Please could you give me an idea off what it cost yoy. She is a Sealine S34.
Many thanks to all who reply./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I have been 'quoted' £1000 for two Volvo TAMD63P on shafts, I dont think that included doing anything with the shafts as it does not include the boat being pulled out of the water.

Appart from changing the oil what else do you get for your £1000? Even at £50 per hour that equates to 18 hours + parts

I beleive they change all the filters, oil, gaskets.

I am waiting for a more detailed quote just to understand what I do get for my money

They also spot potential problems, change gaiters if you have them, check seals and cables.
Unless you are very expeienced you only know what you know, and its only enough unless nothing goes wrong.
A potential fault spotted in time same save hours of agro and worse.
Its not the hourly rate you pay for its the experience they have.
Hard part - finding the right person to do the job!

I know what you mean, I have the choice of two

Aquatics which I currently use and I am very happy with them, apart from price but boating is never cheap, but they are mainly Mercrusier agents, they have a bit of volvo experenice.

The other choice is Shepards which have a lot of Volvo experenice but I have never dealt with them before. Then they have two sites either which I could use.

No I dont. I do my boating on inland-water, Windermere, as so far have never found a need to know this information. Having said that it is something I would like to know more about and am currently looking as some addional training, 3 to 5 day coarse to learn more.

In my view this is Ok for inland water but would like to know your opion as I am always happy to learn.

I accept the sea is a different matter and would not take a boat out without more knowledge.

Yes as a very minimum a skipper should know how to do those simple tasks. Might save some future embarassment and at the very worst could save the boat and lives.

If you go to sea in a motor boat then you should have some idea how the engine works and what to do if it stops. And that doesn't mean picking up the phone and calling for a lifeboat!

Hi Julie
We have a Maxum 2900scr with twin mercs on bravo 2 legs. The lift out and in is about £150, scrub and antifoul about £550 and the complete service of legs, engines, new anodes on wherever it is possible to put one of these it would seem, winterising and antifreeze and all that stuff was £892. This work was done by a top marine eng. co. on the Clyde, but may give you some sums to compare for a slightly smaller boat.

Roy
