Does anyone know what the industry/insurance standards/ requirements are for the service of onboard fire extinguishers is. This is a private vessel not coded.
Should be on them plus record of inspections and tests on lable.
Otherwise look at the BS or makers web sites.
Now its mostly gas cannister propelled and weighing, so you will not need to be bothered with foam mixs and shaking up contents, not to mention making sure pressure relief hole is clear.
Don't bother. Wait until there's a special deal on extinguishers somewhere and just get new ones. Far cheaper.
FWIW I do it when the boat is due to be surveyed for insurance purposes which makes it every 5 years. I've got no idea what the recomended time is though so I can't answer your question! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Ask your insurers what they want to fulfil the policy terms. I am told it's a favourite excuse used when not wanting to pay on fire claims. On Play d'eau, I have to have a valid fire certificate completed annually, and the boat isn't even coded....
I've just checked my policy and there's nothing about certificates, extinguishers, or even fire blankets. My last survey gave me a clean bill of health.
You're not suggesting that I ask the insurers in case they have some small print which isn't in the policy?
I would suggest that if there's nothing in the policy, there's nothing to be concerned about. Mine is quite specific about the extinguishers. Who do you insure with?
I'd do your own thing, then. But a call to Peter who looks after my set up might be useful - he has given sound advice to many forumites. Number in previous posting above.
