Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get a service manual for a made in Belgium, Mercury 4HP 2-stroke outboard without paying a premium? I'm mostly after torque settings for the cylinder head bolts, but it would be useful for other stuff too.

Based on what i've seen on these forums and elsewhere, I'm going to go with 11nm for the torque settings, if I can't get any better info.

Ta,

Ian

I'm no expert, but the torque settings for the head of my Tohatsu 9.8hp is 9nm, so that sounds a bit high?

I got this by emailing the parts department of Tohatsu UK. Try Mercury USA if there's no UK one.

Thanks for the replies, thought I'd try in case there's a source of free manuals online I wasn't aware of. The engine has a strange serial number that doesn't seem to relate to the model ranges usually listed, so I haven't been able to determine the age. I'll look into the seloc manuals, or maybe just contact mercury direct for the settings. I have the manual for the tohatsu 2-stroke but it doesn't have specific torque settings for cylinder head bolts, just a general one for bolt sizes (M8 in this case).

What is the serial number?

Brilliant, thanks. Is there a code to deciphering the year or is there a reference sheet that's lists the year/models somewhere? Teach a man to fish....

Yes, in the Brunswick Marine in EMEA Download Center, but I have the lists downloaded so very quick and easy to find
