Serious Tsunami Evacuation in NZ North Island

First Mates NZ Newsfeed just kicked in.

12 Hours or so ago a number 6 earthquake in the far North, followed a few hours ago by an 8 plus and further aftershocks.

Small craft advised to move to water at least 40 Metres deep, population of a North of Gisbourne evacuated to above 300 metres inland.

Shocks felt in Wellington, 700 Kms away.

Traffic jams everywhere, population advised to walk or bicycle instead of driving.

Sounds serious.

Several North Island Harbours and Ports report sea levels dropping rapidly.

And, as you might imagine in the land that invented Bungy Jumping and other Adrenaline Sports, social media chat seems to indicate the Extreme Surfers are ready and waiting............................... ?
