Good news for swans !! as a result of government cost cutting, the local council swan catcher has had to make a few changes to his boat and net.

'Grasshopper..In a heart that is one with nature, though the body contends, there is no violence, and in the heart that is not one with nature, though the body be at rest, there is always violence. Be, therefore, like the prow of a boat. It cleaves water, yet it leaves in its wake water unbroken.'

Some good responses. About 30 mins earlier this chap paddled accross part of Lough Derg in the early morning mist and almost looked like he was walking on water!

I bet the RNLI would have kittens !

Hmm. It wasn't until I checked about "Irish lifeboats", that I found that the RNLI runs a service with CRBI all round both the Republic and the Other Part of Ireland. Today's piece of enlightenment !

Yes the RNLI have always been the Life Boat service for all Irish waters. They are tasked by Irish Coast Gaurd service who operate the MRCC and four CG Heli SAR bases. IRCG have a fleet of ILBs (CG CUs) which are based in the few areas RNLI do not cover. The RNLI are the only service that operate ALBs.
