Beware the gentle siren call of Flamborough Head! After a gentle sail out of Bridlington along the Head's southern flank - wallop! A fight into Filey Bay for lunch and then - mini wallop around Filey Brig and into Scarborough.

No spot on the visitors' pontoon, but a vacant pen was indicated and one of the helpful and informative watchkeepers was there to help with lines & suchlike. True to their word, they were back around 7.30am to point us to the visitors spot and provide further guidance through the numerous fish & chip shops.

This is a lovely spot, well worth the visit. The town is charming and diverse - traditional seaside, slightly posh, boutique shopping, normal shopping & burgeoning hipsterdom all in a small area. Wander the roads, lanes, paths & ramparts to your heart's content.

BF's top tips ; The Golden Grid near to the harbour on the sea front for sit down fish supper. The market hall for vegetables, curios and a lovely open space. Walks on the cliff either way. Strolling around the castle. Love Brew vegan cafe for the meat free or adventurous. Listening to a concert in the Sun Court Cafe.

Until the marina at Keran near Oban really lost the plot, the showers really took first prize for the skankiest on my first round UK trip in 2012. ( Port Ellen was a bit rough as well!!!)
But I did like Scarborough & the Goth shops were amusing. Wish I could have stayed a bit longer.
Gulls were a pain though

Been a while now - but "skankiest" shower I encountered on the way round - bit further North was down the side of a shed in Arbroath - shared with the fishermen - nothing against them ! - - - but don't think it had been cleaned this side of five years and strewth - the smell.

Now there is a "Clubroom" for boaters with one shower and a library for those waiting their turn!

It is quite peaceful and pleasant to anchor outside too, when the wind is mild and blowing from the shore.
