My Yeoman Plotter has started to forget all the chart co-ordinates when it's powered down. I assume that there is an internal battery that powers the memory that needs replacing- is this a return to the makers job?

i remember seeing a similar post on here sometime ago - theres is a battery in the "blackbox" probably simar to the flat button type you get on PC motherboards. Assuming its out of warranty id be tempted to take it apart and have a look - you havent got anyting to lose really

I asked 'Precision Navigation' a question about upgrading the firmware and got the following...

"As we are the manufacturer of Yeoman products, we maintain a full stock of parts here. We recommend changing the memory battery (should be done every 5 years), so I suggest we have the whole unit back for service.

Our standard service charge is £ 52.88 which includes the software upgrade and battery change. "

You can change the battery yourself, we did ours a couple of years ago. I can't remember the battery size but I think it was a standard size available in big DIY stores.

However, it is difficult to get the screws out of the back of the pad to get at everything without doing damage.

Took mine to Precision Navigation - I'm lucky, it's just about fifteen miles away - and they did the job while I waited. Very helpful people. No other connection with them.

I have now recieved a reply to my email to Precision Navigation viz:

"It depends on the age of your plotter.

The earlier units have a 'tagged' button cell which has a small flying lead soldered to the tags with a connector on it that plugs onto the circuit board.
Later versions have a coin cell that just slides into the coin cell holder on the pcb.

We can supply either batteries at a cost of £ 5.00 plus vat plus postage. Total £ 7.48.

You will ned to identify which battery you require by releasing the six screws from the underside of the mat, that holds the cover to the 'digitiser box' on the left hand side of the mat.
Once removed, it is easy to identify which item is the battery."
