Semi displacement hulls and sedans

Hi all - Are there any semi-displacement boats that are sedans rather than aft cabins? We're very, very, very new to boating - but looking at sailing through French canals and then round Mediterranean for a year - so nothing over 11ft 3in. What sort of boat should we buy? We're rather taken with Brooms as they're so reliable. But we also saw a great Fairline - but put off by planing hull. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Eh ?

Not wishing to be rude Marina, but are you sure about the size you want. It sounds like there's going to be at least two of you living on this boat for a year or so. Are you very friendly? ... cos I think you'll need to be. But good luck anyway and enjoy yourselves.

Aquastar do a sedan version of their 27, 33 and 38, all of which are semi displacement. Interiors can be a bit ..."solid"?? Have great reputation at sea.

As a Broom owner I am obviously biased, but not many sedans? Haines now do what was the Broom Ocean 34 Sedan. Their range is not bad, but most are full displacement sedans.

If you are staying inland displacement would seem better.

Re: Eh ?

Don't worry - it's me and my husband - so we're fairly close ;-) Ideally a 12m boat - our price range is £90k maximum.

Ideally we wanted something 36ft plus. I'll look into Aquastar - hadn't researched those ones before - thanks for tip.
As a Broom owner - why do you have a Broom? Are they suitable for both inland and at sea?

Brooms are incredibly stable, built superbly especially the older ones, best of all Brooms regard all Broom owners as 'new buyers' and treat you as such. Why do I now own a Princess? because I loathe their latest exterior designs.

Yes, some Brooms are suitable for both inland and sea principally because they have an aft deck helm position and no flybridge which means they are lower in height. Some even have folding windscreens which lowers the height further. Furthermore, even modern Brooms with full planing hulls have a keel which allows them to track straighter at slow speed. However most Brooms are aft cabin design and not 'sedan' design by which I guess you mean aft cockpit. Maybe something like the Broom 33 or 10/70 is worth looking at for less than £100k

Re: Crown 37

Hi Marina Imy boat is a Broom Crown 37 which I have found to be ideal for inland and sea Mike comments
re stable keel low air draft (upper windows hinged) etc. I thnk Newark marina have aCrown for about 78k
on their web site. We find the aft cabin very pleasant especially if you have the occasional guest
as bothe the forward and aft cabins have heads and showers. Romm for socialising on the aft deck also.

Cant really understand the. " Put off by planing hull" bit. If it's twin engined it will go any where you want it to. I think also a fly bridge boat will go under the bridges (Depending on route). Just drop the radar arch. Theres a princess 35 sedan advertised some where on this site. Also cant understand the "Broom reliable" bit. I'm not knocking them, but they only make the plastic and wood bit's and not much to go wrong there. It's engines and things that go wrong, no matter what boat there fitted to.

Your first choice with the Broom is more than likely your best avenue. I own a Neptune 40 sedan which incures height restictions as most range from 11'6" and above. Calypso comes in at 13' with her radar mast totally flat.
With the Broom you will have more scope.
