hi all
i hope some of you can help me, i have just bought a selva 20HP outboard, the problem i have is resetting the cdi units under the flywheel, i dont know what gap i have to set them or how to set them in the right place, any ideas anyone, i would be most gratefull for any help, regards les

Why have the units been "unset"? did you buy it in bits?what is the "fixing" method to the stator plate. In most cases fix them back in the middle setting if you get where I,m coming from. gis a bit more info, like any idea on the engines age.

when i bought the engine, it had no spark due to the cdi units touching the flywheel, there are 2 screws to each cdi going through top , the engine is about 10 years old, hope this helps

Your right the units shouldn,t touch the flywheel. The srews usually fix the cdi,s where they are supposed to sit. I,m not familiar with Selva,s particularly, whowever the usual method for "timing adjustement"with that type of ignition system is that the cdi,s are fixed in a fixed position and the stator plate can be moved to advance and retard the timing. Suggest you place the cdi,s kind of as central as you can. The flywheel should be a few thou from the face of the unit ie maybe 5 to 10 max, smaller gap than you would set points as a guide. Suprised though that the units can go anywhere but where the srews stick em! If you put all back and still no spark, try taking the ig coil to your local motor bike fix it man he should be able test it If the units where touching as you mentioned they could be dead, but bike man should be able to test those too. The reason I suggest the local bike shop is that they are generally more into fixing than your Outboard Retailer or Swindlery, and your outboard is much like a bike engine with a propellor stuck on it!

thanks for that, never thought of a bike man, espacial as there is one at the end of my road which i am looking at right now. loosing sight of the trees for the forest cheers
