I have a Cranchi Pelican 32 and am thinking of selling it and buying a smaller boat (Rodman 810?) as I am wanting to go out fishing on my own.

Has anyone any experience (good or bad) of using the YBW Boats for sale facilities?

I put my boat up for sale on YBW a couple of months ago, and I havent had a single enquiry for it. So I wouldnt really recommend it.

I tried the following:-

- Ebay classified ad - lots of enquiries, but mostly time wasters/dreamers
- Apolloduck - 1 enquiry, he seemed serious'ish, but didnt buy
- boats and outboards - a few enquiries, but none serious
- Ebay auction - this is how I finally sold it, or at least think I've sold it, the chap is supposed to be collecting it this coming weekend. I got my minimum acceptable price for it.

What I have discovered is almost regardless of how you price the boat relative to other similar boats on the market, everyone will try and knock 30% off straightaway without even seeing it. EG other boats of the same model and age (but lower spec) were being advertised at 20% more than the price I advertised mine at, but still people wanted 30% off my advertised price.

Never used Ebay, will give it some thought.

Was thinking of using YBW and include a link to a website my daughter is going to create. I am not that computer literate so am treading carefully.

My boat is lying in Empuriabrava, Spain and has been used mostly for tuna fishing. Brought it new some 6 years ago and as its a sports fisher ( open cockpit) I doubt if there would be much interest from the UK.

Have made tentative enquiries from dealers in Spain but due to the economy there they are not interested in buying or even taking it in part exchange.

My son in law is always using Ebay so will sound him out.

My boat is also in spain ,well mallorca to be precise. In my experience (which may not be relevent to your type of boat)there are very few spanish buyers. Most british buyers want the boat bringing back to the UK ,the fact that my boat was not really well suited to british weather didnt seem to be a problem.

In the end I sold to a swedish chap, who is going to trailer it back to Sweden.But I had to let it go for my absolute rock bottom price to do that.

The market is not good out there, especially in Spain, its still a buyers market. I think you have two choices, if you want it sold ASAP then you're probably going to have to let it go for less than you think its worth, if you can hold onto it, then I think prices will firm up once the market picks up properley, but who knows how long that will take.

If you're going to sell it privately, then advertise it in as many different places as possible.

Using a decent broker is probably a good bet, I was starting to get fed up of all the stupid questions I was being asked by various dreamers.

Thanks lanerboy. Have heard about scams on Ebay. How best can I ensure payment is secure (assuming I do find a buyer)?

Is the link to your website still valid? Don't want to copy it exactly but it would give me some ideas. (will not be offended if you tell me to "bog" off!)
