Hi

I have managed to sell my boat to a fellow in Holland. There appears to be a problem with the need to produce a document proving that VAT has been paid in the UK. Without this paperwork the purchaser of my boat will have to pay Dutch VAT of 19% upon import.

The boat is 25 years old with no original purchase documentation - is there any way around this situation

Thanks

You used to be able to apply to Customs and Excise at Dover for a VAT exempt certificate but I'm not sure they're doing it any more. Worth a phone call though
