Self descaling kettle!

Any advice welcome. We are presently in Portimao marina, on the Algarve. Wife has mentioned that the electric kettle has just descaled itself! A little worrying, electrolysis? We have a galvanic isolator, are plugged into the mains but cannot see a reason for this.

Any form of water purification system .

Our electric kettle suddenly lost all the plating from the element after I had forgotten/not bothered to renew our Brita filter cartridge.

Back in the uk, in the Plymouth area our kettles never fur up......water too soft from Dartmoor reservoirs. Over the last 3 summers while we circumnavigated Spain, the boat kettles, one gas, one electric, got badly furred-up with lime scale. Noticed yesterday, making tea, kettle completely clean again, but with lots of bits floating in the bottom!
