Has anyone got any experience of self adhesive carpet headlining - I think Hawkehouse do a version

It sounds good good in theory, I'm wondering if it adheres instantly or if there is sufficient time to make adjustment before the adhesive sets?

Didn't know that self adhesive carpet was available. I was thinking of doing the same with my boat in the hope that it would stop condensation.

It's quite good, but read the instructions with regard to warming it to 'activate' the glue. Use a hairdryer or heat gun to warm it up so it sticks and stays stuck or it will start coming down again after a few hours/days. Perversely, it can be difficult to put up because it does stick immediately and can't really be repositioned. It's also relatively expensive - I was helping a friend with his boat and I'm not sure I'd have paid that price. If you can find a carpet that suits you it might prove better; either way it's good for preventing condensation.

I have used the campervan carpet material with spray adhesive to good effect and am due to replace the wheelhouse headling soon. Provided you use plenty of glue - even coverage, it will stay put.

Its widely available in various colours from suppliers like Rainbow Conversions (grasshopperleisure on Ebay) and is rot and mildew proof, easy to fit and stretches well over edges, bumps and hollows.

I have used "sound proofing/absorbing" material with spray on glue...works a treat and is just the easiest to cut and use. Got a load of it off Amazon...£40 for a 10 x 1.1 m roll. Its the material that guys line thier boots and "boom boxes" with in the boy racer cars and comes in a few colours.

Hi Gavin

I did the boat last winter with the Hawkehouse closed cell foam and carpet stuff and am really impressed with the results.

The carpet does not adhear instantly and you can remove it and re-set it several times, at least you can on the foam. The foam on the otherhand is contact adhesive and is a pain to apply.

It is a two person job and make sure your hands and the boat are really clean before you start.

With both on the boat she is a lot warmer, quieter and has no condensation.
