Any ideas as to how to free a wiper arm from the splined shaft. The grub screw has come out OK but the arm is stuck fast to spline, very awkward to grip with pliers and I am worried about stress cracking the surrounding deck?

If it wont come off any other way, get a dremel ( small grinder) and cut it down to just before the shaft, then it should just break away.

Cover the boat in loads of cloths though, mettal filings are terrible.

I'd use a ball joint puller style wedge set, bearing on the mounting nut not the GRP, so as not to put any stress onto the GRP. Use copperslip when reassembling

Several thoughts, hot water might work, gentle taps all around the arm to loosen it on the splines, or drill a hole in the cap and put penetrating oil in it. Could try any combination of these without putting any stress on the surrounding area. If all fails, I'm down your way at the weekend, I've got a 10Ib sledge hammer! Step aside Kwackers! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Phil, Kwakers, no hammers anywhere near my pride and joy thank you!

I'll try the hot water, then a drill and oil and if they fail, the dremel, thanks guys.

It's off!

Drilled the old one as suggested and lubed with WD40 through a straw on Friday night.

Came off on Saturday afternoon and fitted the new one applying some grease to the shaft.

Thanks for your help.

Good. Now look round in a day or two and find all the rust marks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wilst were at it, my search light plug is welded in the socket, how do I get that out. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
