Seized Volvo KAD 42

You can make an agreement conditional on the result of an analysis of the oils from the engines and drives.

However, this would also give the facts to the seller, so you'd miss the opportunity to buy cheap because he doesn't really know what it's all about.
Yes good idea but don't think the owner is very clued up on boats,doing some further digging online,I suspect they bought it for 15k in the same state she is in today with a kaput engine/drive, think they lived on it. I still think I could grab a bargain but when you factor in what marinas will charge when she is out of the water to get repaired it may take the shine of it a bit,plus hard trying to convince Mrs Roberts that buying a none working boat is a good thing is proving harder than I first thought lol

I just thought If the total cost comes anywhere near a "just add water" state boat, that would get you out there much sooner, still busy tinkering, but in a much less immersive way;

Mrs Roberts would potentially feel more involved and get a bit more of your attention in such a scenario.

Happy wife, happy life 😘

That's true she is the sensible one lol, we did find a nice boat on the Thames for sale ready to go for similar money but just missed it, will still keep the negotiation going if she has not sold and keep an eye on the market to, just looking at chart plotters as the boat has the radar part installed but no electronics not even a VHF radio so another thing to consider.
