Does anyone have any experience with GPS trackers that a) record your location and b) record the boat's location when it has been stolen? A few like Spot and C-pod are tied into relatively expensive manned service contracts which are not strictly necessary; in the auto world this is a well developed business and typically the costs are much lower. Does anyone have experience of using them? Its inevitable that this sort of technology will eventually be required by insurance companies (and may already reduce premiums) so its worth looking at. Cheers.

I have installed one bought off ebay for about £50. I think they are nearer £30 now. Device works well and I have installed so that it is hidden. Uses a PAYG Sim Allows me to monitor where the boat is, allows a safety watch on the boat from ashore when crossing the channel (loses signal for about 10 miles mid channel. good for piece of mind and little cost -in theory, if the boat is stolen I can find it if a) it's near shore, b) the device hasn't been disabled

Same here. Works a treat. even stolen boats need to get near shore occasionally.
