Security bars for hatches?

No id like to be able to leave the hatch fully open most of the time when we leave the boat. We've only ever sailed in high latitudes and heading south now so warm will be a first for us. I understand cabins can become little ovens especially with our large saloon windows.

Can't think of that many anchorages where I wouldn't happily leave the hatches wide open , were it not for those pesky tropical squalls coming over. Bar empties for 10 minutes shit, left the hatch open... ;)

Have you got sun covers for your large windows? We have a removable white mesh on our sprayhood windows. Makes a huge difference to heat getting in. Our deck hatches have covers. The best ventilation in our boat when we leave it for a few hours is from our opening portlights. They dont rain in like a deck hatch. We also have a large sun cover that laces under our boom and over the sprayhood to provide good shade. In hot windless weather ot makes a huge difference

For some port lights you can source plastic covers that 'overhang' the port light, keeps rain out in wind and stops water running off the coachroof and straight through the opening. We have canvas covers that fit into plastic sailtrack that serves a similar purpose - and helps funnel more wind through an open port light.

My portlights are in the hull. They dont rain in often but we have custom made scoops that we can fit to either suck air out or direct it into the boat. They are made of clear sprayhood window material so still let light in. Work very well

Going back to the original concerns, in all the thousands of miles you have covered, has there been any concerns?
