Security aid for boats?

I've seen a few stories here of people getting their boats burgled. PC Pro March 2007 mentions a nice gadget that might be of interest. It's the Nokia PT-6 remote observation camera; described as a mobile phone with camera, no keyboard, IR illuminatore etc.
It will detect motion and start sending photos to wherever you want. You can also listen in if alerted. Internal battery has 12 hour life so you would need to use ships battery to power it.
I've no idea about costs.
Looking at the picture of it concealing it might be difficult.

ones I looked at a couple of years ago could be integrated into an alarm system and remote controlled from a mobile phone to pan , tilt and zoom ,,, far from cheap though

You'll need a net connection to make that work. 3g routers are only £130 ish and a wireless internet subscription can be got for £12-29 depending on various factors.

You need a SIM - PAYG will do with a bit of credit on it - of course on a network with coverage on board at LW. Uses GPRS connection to send images over the cellular network.

I hope this doesn't look too much like a commercial post - it is a service we are currently offering in one marina and surrounding harbour (up to a mile away) and looking to do it elsewhere. Click to see our boat on camera and accessible via the internet from anywhere (user name : viewer / password : viewer). It offers pan&tilt but noting that SButters have broken the odd webcam we're not showing that here /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but if you want to play with it pls pm me. Also offers infra-red, motion detection & recording to remote server etc. No indoor camera showing at present as you wouldn't want to see HWMBO in the all together if he forgets his dressing-gown !

If the moderators feel this is too commercial pls do delete it.

Personally I also use it to see what the weather's like down there.
