Securing Delta on bow roller

The crown on my delta anchor sits very high on the bow roller, so high in fact that it is impossible to get an anchor pin through the bow roller and on top of it.Also, the anchor locker lid has no catch on it to keep the shank held down. What should I do ? Drill a hole through the crown and put the pin through it,fit a catch to the locker and something else to secure the shank or what ? (PS the salesman told me that they just sit there no problem in a F8..... that must be why held down with a length of cord where the pin should go it flew off the bow in a F5 and brought us to a sudden stop ! Boat is a Hunter Channel 31

we generally leave ours held in place by a tight chain from the windlass. on a long passage i put a lanyard through it to a cleat. i did buy a mini highfield lever with a hook to secure it but haven't got round to fitting it yet.

perhaps better described as an over-centre clip. hook is attached part way along a lever, when lever is pressed flat it applies a large force to the hook. used on classic boats for quickly tensioning runners.

I replaced the slightly concave roller with a Plastimo one that has a narrow groove around the central part. This just fits the shank of the Delta. If your boat is like mine you can pull the anchor aft, virtually locking it into the roller. I then fitted a U-bolt into the deck, fitted with a non-removable type halyard shackle that just engages with either the warp shackle or the connection on the shank. This holds the anchor very firmly.

Like Vivs solution, plus on ours we have a small bow fender (3 eyelet type) and the Delta is pulled into it with the windlass. It squashes the fender and is held very tight, but just to be sure we have 2 plastic cleats fitted either side of the shank and tie across between these. With the anchor in place the bow fender is almost out of site so doesn't look tatty.

I am no ironmonger, steel specialist or anything close, but, if I may, I would strongly recommend not drilling an extra hole in the anchor's shank, as it may slightly reduce it's strength. That's my point of view, and nothing more.

As a matter of interest, what sort of anchor do you design and manufacture ?
(Currently fitting-out a 34footer for bluewater cruising)
