I’m about to buy my first boat. I want a bowrider for sea use (North Wales, UK) for up to 8 or 10 people to enjoy on nice summer days. My budget is about up to £50K max – ideally less of course.

I’m looking at two boats.

1. The first is a brand new Stingray 250LR 2015 with a Mercruiser 5.0 litre MPI Bravo 3 drive with stainless props 260hp. Brand new and complete with GPS and trailer and quite a few nice extras. It’s coming out at about £50K. It comes with a 5 year hull and deck warranty and 5 year Mercrusier warranty.

2. The second option is a 2011 Cobalt A25. It’s 7.77m with a Mercruiser 350 MAG 300HP engine. Complete with GPS and new trailer it comes out at about £45K. Built in 2011 but I’m told only launched in 2013. No warranty.

I like the idea of the brand new boat with warranty – but don’t like the depreciation. On the other hand, I know Cobalt is a great make and the boat has already depreciated a lot – but it is, of course, older and has no warranty.

I’m new to all this and could do with some help deciding!

Thank you,
