Second Costa Ship in Distress

Imagine one of the really big cruise ships losing all power in the middle of the ocean in a force 10 gale. How long before one tips over? Its only a matter of time.

No ship has been lost due to the action of the sea alone; you need down flooding for that to happen.

So if the water tight integrity is maintained then she will roll and pitch and make life very unconfortable but not sink.

Synchronisation is not a credible risk since the close coupling required disappears with the changing circumstances.

There would be a lot of very sick and green passengers plus not a few injuries since the modern belief is that furniture doesn't shift in weather (NOT). The media would make it large.

Not beyond the bounds of seamanship (enough crew and spare hands) to take the furniture and other assorted bits and pieces, thread it on to the mooring lines to provide a sea anchor from the bow to keep her more head to wind than the typical beam on drift angle.
