Hi can anyone assist me with some water pump help. There are two water pumps fitted to my Nissan diesel engine one is a Fynspray make and brass coloured the other is black and do not know what make it is (maybe somebody else can tell me from the picture) The fynspray pump seems to be tight on the first few turns, so when starting engine the belt slips but once it has been made to run then starting the engine again starts the pump ok (only happens on the first cold start) As can be seen from the photo the markings on the pump say FYNSPRAY and WSP can anyone give me more information on this pump and a european supplier of replacement parts for it. Also when the pump is running and the engine rpm is increased there is a schreeching noise like the belt is slipping, any ideas ?

yes noise will be belts, I would say that if you need a new pump thats free standing contact jabsco thay will be able to match up a new pump with the size of the old one.

The old one may be a sherwood.

i'd say looking at the wear on the edges of the belt there may be a slight misalighnment problem or the belt is not quite the right v and not locating properly in the pulley.
does the belt run round right round the other pulley or just running over the top ? the reason i ask is its possible the sqeal is the belt slipping on the other pulley due to not alot of surface contact,i have a similar problem due to lack of space etc , i,ve tried different profile belts over time and have now found one that suits best, its a bit of a compromise but heyho thats life.
i wouldn't say it was unusual for the pump to be stiff for the first few turns especially on startup mines the same and i put it down to the impellor getting a bit dry/set in position, once its spun abit it frees up.
as has been already said the problem is more likely your belt set up not your pump.
one other thing i use is belt dressing its, used to create a bit of stickiness to the belt and so help it grip,a local farmer or pulley and bearing shop would normally keep it in stock.

re :getting different profile belts if you go to a good trade car/light commercial spares stockist you'll find they often carry a range of fanbelts the right length but slightly different v profile or again your local bearing/pulley stockist, its worth a bit of experimenting and if it is the belt,/engine pump causing the problem you'll have changed the other pump for no reason, cheaper to check the belt first

Belts with teeth are designed to form around very small pulleys, they give good grip in general and have become the standard fit but the older style solid v belts without teeth are still made and is the correct design for your size of pulley wheel.
your motor dealer can order them in but will tell you the teeth ones grip better which could be true for modern small wheels but not yours so try solid teeth less belts.

(Boosh stopped making belts about 4 years ago so dont try to match them or you can end up with old stcok that has been on a shelf for years)
