We currently have two bucket seats on a small flybridge I would like to change to something with a flipover back rest, second seat and table that would fill the gap to make it into a sunlounger. Does anyone have any suggestions who/where I could get something like this built please?

Sorry it's a bit of a dull question but I promise to show a bevy of beauties using said lounger once I have had it fitted and built!

Before you get too carried away you might want to consider what is important to you, the comfort and safety of a bucket seat at sea or the convenience of a flimsy sofa in the marina.

A good sea boat or bad sea boat can be determined 90% by the seats.

Nothing wrong with sofas in a marina if you want a floating cottage with an option to go to sea in F1-3 but if you want to cruise far in F4-6 you might miss the bucket seats more than you realize.

A good point Daka and something I will consider as we are definately not floating cottage types. What do you have up top? Am I a "wuss" though if I leave the flybridge in a F4-6 to go down to the comfort of the saloon!! (Would put a smiley here but don't know how!)

Quite right, Daka. We regularly used to cross Biscay in a plywood pram dinghy with a Seagull outboard, but fitted with a pair of Stidd 500V5's. I understand after we sold her, she was used as the camera boat for the film "A Perfect Storm".

Wish I could find out how to put a big smiley here "lol"

Thanks Wiggo :D
I sort of assumed similar sized boats .

Hi Jonesey

Im not sure about your boat but I have assumed a 9 m french boat ???

They are very good at making boats to cope with the Atlantic afternoon sea breezes, your boat with the bucket seats will feel as comfortable at a 12 m English boat with boat show seating.

my boat has a bucket helm and a twin/triple flip seat for the navigators.

I had modified the flip seat and added extra hand hold straps that are attached when it is rough.

There is nothing matter with boat show flip seating for sun bathing and playing in the solent.
Everything on your boat is a compromise , I am not suggesting you shouldnt enjoy the flip seating but I thought you should be aware of the compromise you are about to introduce.

As to going out in a F6, not very often
getting caught out in a standing wave round a headland in an afternoon sea breeze F6-8 , come on we have all done that and seating determines if your family go out with you again or not !

Thanks Daka. Not sure what to do now, as you raise a safety issue that I hadn't considered. We bought her because of her "chop squashing" abilities given her size - I definately don't want to spoil the confidence that she gives the wife and kids. The problem we have is that there is not enough room for the four off us up top and so SWIMBO and I end up with one child per lap. I'll see what Outhill and others do as, if nothing else, I want a comfy safe helm as I spend more time up there that the rest of the family. I would be interested to hear from others who have a flip type seating.
