Thanks, that gives me the confidence to ditch the diode and see what happens. Will report back.
I agree with everything Paul has said. However I would question why the diode is there? You would not just stick a diode in a circuit for no reason. Agree with Paul it is a bodge but is it there because of something that has happened due to another bodge. Paul is probably correct in that it has something to do with the two power supply situation. I would make sure everything else is correct before removing the diode. You may find that if you correct the power supply then something won't work until that diode is removed. Sorry if that confuses the issue but just trying to say, be careful.
