Season\'s record: 83 knots!

Bora of 83 knots this morning in Trieste! I was aboard yesterday (5 mooring lines) and felt as though I were in the southern ocean; a sort of VR Cape Horn! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, It blew the birds out off trees here in Zagreb as well. You warned me about the Bora for my sailing trip in Split ( now confirmed a nice Elan 333 for 21-24/5).

How do you spot the Bora on the synoptic charts?

Kingfisher,

Along with four others, I am leaving Gibraltar on the 11th May for a non stop delivery trip to Split. The boat is a friends brand new Oyster 62, and I guess the 1600 or so nautical miles are going to take some7 or 8 days.

After my last trip from Gib (to Gran Canaria via a horrendous storm, and an unscheduled visit to Casablanca!), I was hoping for warm, steady F4/5 winds, and pleasant sailing conditions. Will I be disappointed??

By the way, the full time skipper will be doing all the planning, not me!!!

Old people say here in Croatia that in March exists 3 times Bora every year ( 7. 17. and 27. March) .This last one is delayed. So, with great percentage summer will come very fast!

How should I know? I'm a Belgian with near/no experience of Adreatic sailing. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm going to sail in Split 21-24/5 with my girlfriend. So if you come across a chartered Elan 333, anchored off the coast of a small island, and the boat is bobbing about, even though there is no wind whatsoever,...DON'T EVEN CONSIDER KNOCKING. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

From previous Med charters, here's what I do know:
1) You'll have wind from 9-12h and from 14-17h, with the best sailing around 16:00. Between 19:00 and 23:00, the wind dies completely. Works for both AM and PM.
2) Nevertheless, do not underestimate the med. Ask the skipper of Mirabella V.
3) Watch for Mistral, Sirocco and Bora. They tend to make life unpleasant.

But Metabarca, Branco, e.a. should be able to provide more info.
