I 'possibly' overheard the above on VHF Saturday morning.

God, the suspense is killing me - I NEED to know how Kawasaki fared on a raggie. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, after the first egg, bacon & MUSHROOM sarnie with a careful & delicate smear of brown sauce (for which Kwaka is justly famous) everything seemed to be going well.

Tide & wind were straight down the Straits, but the water was flat as Lakey's best and the breeze about F3. Rich had been hanging by his toenails all morning rewiring his alternator by brail, so a chance to have a go on a raggie didn't seem quite so bad.

Now my raggie is a bilge-keel, ketch, caravan; but F3 flat calm is as good as it gets, so we went tack to tack with the dinghies (and lost). We tacked to & fro for about an hour without any progess, but it was sunny, and beautiful and the butties were brilliant.

"At sea boring is good" as another's tag line says so Kwaka's comment that it was good might have referred to our speed & lack of progress.

Sadly, Rich was not able to hang around for long. So he carefully took Searush into the middle of the PD mini-marina, where the pontoons are about half her length and closer than the parking bays in ASDA. Unfortunately, I didn't have the skill to get her out again without more hand-offs than we saw in the Rugby on Saturday.

After getting out of PD, I decided to sail back to Caernarfon anyway. And Rich unfortunately missed the best bit. It took about 3 hours to make it, but it was superb, the tide eased a little and the sailing was great - if a little taxing solo. Didn't bother with charts, just played touch & go on the sandbanks.

Well, where do I start?

Arrangements were made.

So I furltered down to Caernarfon Harbour on Friday eve to meet another Forumite.
Der know, every Forumite I have met in the Flesh has been a good experience.

This time however I was a bit nervous.
Flip, a Raggie!
Oh well, at least We had communicated without much stress and We had bantered on ere previously.
Getting a bit dark by the Time I got to the Harbour, where's His piggin Saily boat I thought?
They all look the same to Me.
Aha! just under the shadow of Caernarfon Castle was this Sturdey Looking Vessel.


Nope wrong One.
Twas the Harbourmasters New Ship!

Then I spied this Well Worn Vessel. (WWV) from here on In.
Blimey! Thought I.
That looks a bit Nautical.
"Hello" I Hailed.
"Permission to come aboard"?
Felt a bit nervous, well, this Vessel looked a bit serious, strings and stuff everywhere, looked like, to Me, as if said boat had been to The North Pole and back.
"Come Aboard" I heard.
Well that's all very well.
I,m used to stepping off a Pontoon and clasping Optics for safety.
Now I had to clamber down a rusty "Ladder" to board said Ship!.

Anyway safely aboard, nice boat, nice Welcome.
Kettle on and Choccie biscuits!
Oh well, thought ,I these Raggie Geezers aren't all that bad.

So the next Day dawned.
Just surfaced from Me bilge and a (now familiar) bearded fissog appeared.
Soon as yer know it We were paddling out to The Yacht.

I thought, why are We paddling? Oh I know, it costs nowt.
Yer see Folks , no petrol, no outboard, these Raggies, Blimey , they cut it fine.

Now aboard the Saily boat thinghy, cripes there's all these wires and strings.
"We'll Sail off the Mooring" Says Searush, that'l upset the Natives" or some such comment.
"Searush" I thought to My Self. Why call a Boat Searush, cos it don't look to Me like it's gonna Rush anywhere?
So We "Rushed" off the mooring.
Fair play, there was no breeze, wind, in fact it was a good Day to Mobo!
However Sail We did.

Well ,Wallow would be more to the Point.
Sadly it was not a Sailey Day and I had to leave cos summat turned up.

Fair play to Searush (The Man), No wind and We still "Sailed" a bit.
Twas a "Demo" for a Mobo type.

Cripes, no Wind No Challenge for a Yachtie type.
However.
"Tack now" Skip said, "pull this Sheet."
Sh%t?, that's a rope "No it's a sheet"?
Blimey , it's another Language.
Looked like a Rope to Me!.
Flip, it all goes on, even at 3 kts."Point to the Wind" a Voice said.
So I did.
"No, point the bow to the Wind", "Not yer Finger"
Well I didn't know.

That must have been good, Straits tend to be too sheltered in S-S/E.

Sorry, folks for trespassing on the MoBo thread, but I thought you might like to know how Kwaka coped with the strings & rags. 4 out of 5 seems a fair score, and not bad considering I didn't offer any instruction! Fry-up butties hit 10 out of 5 tho'.

As it's difficult to cruise in company with such widely different craft, I reckon crewing for each other is a great way of breaking the ice & getting to know "the other half" of boating. Why not try it yourselves? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Listen ere misterg.
Force 3 felt like a Gale to Me, every time yer sets the saily / clothy things and all is well, yer has to tick or tack or tick tack to or summatt cos the sandy banks are about ter grab yer.
Then to get where yer wanna go yer goes in the wrong direction!
When the eng was fired up I felt at Home.
However twas an interesting experience under Power too.
Only had a little dabble whilst I had to jump Ship.
Nudging into the Pontoons and "Parking" was easier than some Mobos I have sampled.
Must admit though it was right good fun.
Ticky tackying, or whatever it's called, well , I,ve never gone nowhere so slowly for so long to get back to where I just came from!
Is De ja vue, or is it, or does it mean , the same Vue, yer just left 20 mins ago?
Perhaps that's where the Saying came from.
Some Yachty geezer thinking "F Me, I started from ere 3 hours ago and now I,m back where I started from"

Would love a ride on a sailey boat, any offers? I am afraid I would just be a passenger though, SWMBO is a bit more hands on!

Just remember not to put your cup/ glass on the side of of the main hatch. What is a lovely level surface on port tack slopes like mad on starboard & your drink will end up in the deep when you tack! Guess how I know this! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

(It doesn't help when the Irish Sea is trying to pour itself down the channel you're trying to sail up, mind.)

I had to get up at 04:30 to get to Cemaes Bay for lunch!

It's all boats, though - thanks for posting, & sorry for the moment of lucid tranquility amid the diesel fumes and questions about KADs, CATs, Residuals and blue LEDs.
