Snugin HH, last of the grandprix, suddenly swmbo gives a shriek! A white bowswings just past the window! Jump on deck, there is a white and red striped steel ketch pushing in to tne berth next to me. Not really enough room, Then spot no fenders out, middle aged wife on board with same male at wheel. We rush and adjust our fenders.Turns out he is a german, just bought boat in Caernarfon, decided to anchor somewhere south of HH, anchor wouldnt hold.
30KTS forecast for tonight from the north east, hohum!
Do you know the boat Steve? steel, ketch, white hull, red striped toerail. Was against the wall, has ayellow plastic pipe on the port side as a wall fender

Funny that, a German entertained the whole of Klintehamn one Sat pm last May, trying to push a 50' AWB into a Box far too narrow for it- beach towel syndrome, I think, as box very near the Facilities. Kept trying to prise the piles apart until a very, very irate Danish HM told him where to go:D
Wonder if it's the same bloke:D
Very, very Prussian?
We met a lovely German couple on the X yacht next to us as a result, mutual disbelieving head shaking being a universal language:D

Herman Draggin!

He was off Llanddwyn FRIDAY and Saturday.

On friday he up anchored about 30 mins before low water and went back towards Caernarfon over bar.

Saturday he came and anchored upwind of us on the Aberfraw side of Llandwyn. Sunday AM wind upto 35 knots saw Herman draggin from about 2metres of water. We watched him sail off to HH!

We then had a thought provoking wait for the tide and timed our entrance at Belan and Traeth Gwyllt to coincide with over 40 knots on the nose and full flood tide. Wish I could have videoed NW mob! Straits wind agin tide at its best!

Ilb and a passing dive boat went to help Led Astray at Belan as they had a mooring pickup line around prop.

New boat gave us a lot of confidence in big head on rollers.

Hope Herman stays safe.

Left them in HH, home now, they were going back this afternoon. Had drinkypoos last night. They turned out really nice! Their anchor, a danforth, wouldnt hold, they werent happy. They said that they had gone back towards Caernarfon at low water. Didnt know you could do that! But he said it has a triple keel so will dry out. They have bought and will leave it in the UK and they will fly out from Munich to Manchester for hols.

The boat is (was?) called Canta Libre and has just changed hands over winter. It seems that the former owner has paid this year's berthing fee & told the HM that he still owns a half share because you can't sell a berth with a boat. I haven't met the new owner yet, but the boat is built like a brick outhouse, I often lean SR on it f there isn't a berth on the wall itself.

makes sense now. Looks a nice boat, well faired considering welded steel!

The seller built her himself & has also built her replacement, but I don't know where the new boat is. He is a canal boat builder for a living I think. It was up for sale at around 20K and has been recently repainted & had a fair bit of fettling done to encourage the sale. I always quite liked her but wouldn't want a steel boat or a triple keeler out of personal prejudice.

I think this boat is due to be berthed in front of us at PD shortly. Note to self, take more fenders down this weekend!
My initial reaction was highly pi ssed off, but he turned out to be a nice guy! Is a Scientific Dr working on fusion in the world famous Max Planck Institut. My own PhD on board this weekend was well impressed!

OMG I wont want to be anywhere near the lock with two steel lumps. It would feel like being put in a car crusher!
