During my Foggy run up the channel after the fireworks (see thread below) my searchlight blew up in rather dramatic fashion, big bang and flash e.t.c So I now need a new bulb which I cannot seem to get from any of the On-Line swindleries or from Puerto Solente or Chichester, Halfords don't have them either. The bulb/lamp unit is a sealed beam with no numbers on and I don't have a clue who it is made by. Any ideas where to look for one? as you can imagne I could do without having to buy a whole new R/C searchlight cos' I can't get a bulb.
Thanks and sorry for the vague description!

I got my 2 million candle light serachlight in Maplins for £7.99 or it could have been £9.99. It runs from the cigarette lighter and is brilliant. Even if you eventually replace the other bulb, it would be handy as a back up/spare. They are ultra light and very powerful. Good luck with the bulb anyway.

Got one of them but mine is cheaper, better and most definetly(sp?) brighter than yours, I bought it for £4.99 in Germany (don't know how!!!) it is a 5kw spotlight!!!!!!!!! The only problem is that it drains so much power everything else dims right down and the Chartplotter goes off due to the low voltage!!

GOOD Searchlights should be banned on all boats until user has taken an exhaustive test on their use on water.

I know, you have explained this to me before/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
It was foggy and dark so I needed to use it!.

I knew you would reply to this, in fact I thought about calling my thread "I intend to use my searchlight to blind everyone so I can blast through crowded channels at night!" to get you fired up/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Why not use it on dipped beam, or should all cars on dark motorways and roads go around with no lights on, here we go again with more utter nonsense /forums/images/icons/wink.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I got home late from village cricket match last time home, and decided it wasn't going to wreck my plans for heading up the broads for the weekend. Previous searchlight had fell apart and I still hadn't found a suitable replacement. I went to Halfords and bought a 5k handheld and thought that would be cool enoght to let me reach the nasty bit before crossing Breydon Water at slack water. Unfortunately, I was so blind and knackered by the time I got to that point, I think I would have got divorced if I had carried on. SWMBO had control of the light. I was surprised to wake up the next morning to find I still had retinas. Every time I spoke to her she would turn round, with the light in her hand, and totally sear my eyeballs. Never again.............../forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Um, I wonder if you would have been better with simple legal lights, brightness dimmed right down on the dash, and no searchlights. You will lose all night vision with monster searchlights in fog/night, no? - hence the stuff turning up a bit sudden?

No, the Searchlight blew up before then, but when it was going it was actually quite good at penetrating the fog (it isn't too bright you see) And I really wish I could dim the brightness on the dashboard!!

<font color=red>DON'T WORRY EVERYONE, I only tried the Monster 5kw thing ONCE, ages ago and will <font color=red>NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!!!! It nearly cooked my GRP and I don't know what it was doing to the batteries, let alone my eyes

Re: Utter nonsense...

This type of comment reminds me of a song that starts off something like "Nah nah, nah na nah nah, hey hey hey, he's a ....... can't remember the rest but I am sure some one else will.

I think may be the best course would be to leave the broken bulb in, and follow some of the more useful suggestions here.
