Does anyone have a Seamaster 23 lifting keel boat and can tell me whether they are a good boat. I have been offered one at £1600 with lots of kit and in good condition. I know very little about them so are they a decent boat?

many thanks for your replies. I was mistaken the boat has an 8 year old Beta diesel so should be OK. As I have a drying mooring I am concerned as to how it would sit on the sand/mud.

The Seamaster 23 I know of is basically a copy / rip off of the Westerly Pageant; so I'd be surprised if it didn't have twin keels, as the vast majority of Pageants had. The very first Pageant no. 1 was based at my club, called ' L GEE ' after the designer Laurent Giles, owned by the late Dennis Warren - aircraft designer on the Hawk and Harrier, before that the Gnat and Fairey Delta 2 ' faster than the sun ' project, first aircraft to sustain over 1000 mph.
A Seamaster Sailer 23 ? A Seamaster 23 is a mobo
A Laurent Giles design and very similar to their Westerly Pageant. Probably not as "desirable" as an almost identical boat carrying the Westerly brand name.
There was one in the yard near.. The keel got stuck but someone with more brawn and a bigger hammer than the owner soon sorted it out.
Most important thing to check out is that it has a decent modern inboard diesel engine ... If it has I'd think it's a steal at £1600. If it hasn't you might be looking at fitting an outboard
" A Seamaster 23 is a mobo " led me to think you didn't know the boat.
It would be interesting to know the actual dates these boats were first made; just as the Colvics tried to imitate later Westerlys, like the 33/ Countess.
