I have a reasonable leak from rainwater in my little boats cabin, she dries on a slope so it ll gathers at the starboard corner of the side bunk.
I suspected the winch right above there but just remembered I replaced the stanchion bases a couple of months ago. Previously they were mounted onto plywood plinths of varying thicknesses which had rotted a bit. I mounted them directly onto the fibreglass deck this time, lining the base with butyl tape and punching a hole where the bolts pass through. I have tightened them up, but only once, I believe they need tightening again and again over a short period of time?
Or should I have just wrapped a bit of butyl tape round the bolt head instead of trying to cover the entire stanchion base?
Or should I in fact have an intermediate surface bonded to the deck then the bases mounted on that?
Or is there a better method entirely. Thanks.
