Hi,

I need to seal the connection between a through-hull, a 90 degree bend, a seacock and a hose (in that order). Can anyone tell me what is the best way to do these joints ? Should I use Sikaflex, or silicon or pfte tape or what ? Or is it best to just have a metal-to-metal joint ? I see that existing hoses have been joined on with silicon (or Sika) and hose clamps, is the Sika really necessary ?

Also, as luck would have it, when screwed into the 90 degree angle the seacock ends up with the handle against the hull instead of away from it, what is the best way to get around this problem can anyone tell me ?

Many thanks,

Boo2

I've always used PTFE tape. To get an angled fitting facing the right way you need to put a lock nut on the through hull fitting first. Screw the angled fitting down as tight as you can with it facing the direction you want, then screw the lock nut up to keep it there. Hoses should just need a couple of jubilee type clips to seal them, warm the hose first to get a good fit. If you have to use sealant as well then either the hose or the fitting is the wrong size.

ptfe tape on the threads. Hose should be a tight fit on the tail and probably need warming to get it over. Then clipped (2 if you are anal). To get the handle in the right orientation assemble the valve to the skin fitting before you lock the skin fitting in place with the back nut. Use a back nut for the bend to get that right as well.

Easiest way is to use Sika and turn the fitting to the required angle and let the Sika seal the thread and hold it in place. It won't move again unless you get a big spanner on it. Never had a failure in 30 years.

Previous best advice was loctite 572 which take a day to set. Other types of locktite set too quickly.

See my post earlier in week Seacock virgin as I experienced all your problems and more!
