Sealine\'s Plan for the S25 ??

I am planning to purchase a S25 in the new year (first MoBo) but I was wondering what Sealine had planned for this model/entry level space? Are they still going to be producing these for the foreseeable?

The reason that I ask, is that I’ve noticed that in terms of marketing they now seem to omit the 25 when listing the model range – the S/SC29 now seems to be the entry level boat. For example I received a letter from yesterday with the old LIBS free tickets offer and in the list of models they are showing, there is no mention of the S25. Now I am sure that there will be a S25 there but why no mention of it? Also in the MBM new boat index/listing section, the S25 is not listed under Sealine and hasn’t been for a number of months. Now Im sure that if they were bothered about it they would of got the magazine updated accordingly. I know that the sales teams are only interested in selling T60s etc but you cannot ignore entry level customers to your brand – as you never know what their future requirements and resources may be.

Therefore anyone know what the roadmap is for the S25? Is going to become the "S26 & ¾" in near future – or some other random number!!

Many Thanks

No idea about the S25, but I would have thought Sealine would want to keep the model for the reasons you mention. That said, they have been slowly pushing the price up to maintain the gap to the S29 which is well over £100k now by the time you add the basics. From memory a top spec S25 with D3-190 now has a list price of £65k, so it is a big jump up to the 29. Perhaps they are planning a S26/27 to justify a hike in price to the mid £70k's.

Maybe their current owners (Brunswick) see the S25 as out of kilter with the rest of the range. As they own Bayliner, Maxum and Searay as well (to name but a few) then they might see those brands as fulfilling the sub 30ft market and want their prestige brand (Sealine) to concentrate on the bigger stuff, leaving the lower end brands the job of feeding up.

As for the 285 with Bayliner, it is still on their website though most of the other models around it have been replaced with their new edgier styled offerings - the 300, 320 and 340 (the 340 is a rebadged 325). The 285 is still the best boat Bayliner have made in years, and really is the peace of the range but it is due an update, the current boat is the ame boat that was introduced as the facelifted 2855 in 2000. perhaps we will see a 280 in coming months which will be interesting

It sounds like normal tactics when they are discontinuing a model, but have some stock to sell. My guess, and its only a guess, is that at current exchange rates they can't compete with the new crop of diesel engined small sport cruisers from the US, so are focusing on bigger boats, like almost every other UK and European builder.

Yep agree 285 is the best bayliner boat since the narrow beem 2655 (my boat) way better than current 265 or 275 for various reasons IMO. I reckon the 285 will soon be re modelled and I too will be intersted to see how. Cant see sealine dropping the 25.

If your worried about future residuals etc... why buy new? early S23's now going for as little as 30-35K. Basicaly you'll get the same experience just not so shiney and new.Try not to think like buying a new car, boats are completely different, a sorted used boat is a much better buy and a lot less hassle.
All the main UK builders have been moving out of the "small" boat buisness for years, I'm surprised Sealine have kept the S23/25 for so long.

Re: Sealine\'s Plan for the S25 ??

I remember the same thing happened before the S37 was discontinued. It disappeared from boat shows and marketing material many months before the S38 appeared so the same might be happening to the S25
Whether it's a good idea in terms of depreciation to buy a new S25 depends on whether Sealine intend to ditch the model altogether or replace it with a new model. If the model is disappearing altogether for whatever reason, then values of used examples should hold up but if it's being replaced with a S26, say, then the values of the S25 might suffer. Worthwile digging for more info before you sign the order

...and I was one of those who bought an S37 at that time and to be fair, Sealine (dear 'ol Trevor) didn't hide anything and told me that a new model was coming out.
Unlike cars I've observed that the prices have held up for the S37 helped, I believe, by the quite expensive price tag on the S38. So my point is, don't worry too much about a line being discontinued and it might just put you in a good bargaining position.

I would hate that. I can't stand buying a new car to find that an updated model arrives a few months later so I would be a bit pissed off to buy a new boat that got canned shortly after I bought it. Still, if Sealine told you upfront that's fair

Re: Sealine\'s Plan for the S25 ??

I ordered an S28 at SIBS 3 years ago and asked for delivery in April following year.
when i visited the dealer in November i was asked to "step into the office" where i was quietly told that i could have the S28 in april but it would be the boat that was currently sitting in the yard as there was to be a new model launched at LIBS in January.
and now i have an S29 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i know there were some S25's being built a few weeks ago /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
so maybe ask for a delivery next year and you would like to see your boat being built /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
