I apologise unreservedly to PhilF and to others for some of the pops I have had at Sealine. I accept that everyone makes their own choice for a whole range of reasons and we should all respect that.

Sealine is a very successful boat manufacturer and occupies a particular position in the market. They certainly offer a wide and exciting choice for newcomers to boating which most of the other manufacturers do not match and the opportunity to grow within their model range up to 60ft.

I suppose that I do get a little irritated with the boat reviews which overlook market positioning and to the uninitiated could give the impression that all manufacturers have the same philosophy in mind with the design and build of their boats. Just as with the car industry each manufacturer sets out their stall and we the customers decide what suits us best.

Re: Be nice to Sealine week?

Strange that the owners of other marques do not have hissy fits when the name of their particular boat builder is maligned.

Re: Be nice to Sealine week?

This could have something to do with owners that spent earlier years taking the comments as they came, but are no longer prepared to take the jibes launched from loftier positions without at least putting up a spirited defence. No hissy fits, but no retreat, either. Also, the large mass of Sealine owners generally don't take potshots at the other marques, because they don't need to, in the same way that a Volvo S60R owner might well keep quiet when some turkey keeps rabbitting on about his BMW 325.

"I say, are you the sort to be owning a Motor Launch ?"
"My 20 year old 25ft Princess is more seaworthy than your Sealine T47"
"What do you expect, it's a Sealine"

OK, so that's a good start. Now perhaps we can learn something:

Why did you 'have a pop' in the first place? You must be rather agrieved about something.

What is the relevance of market positioning to boat review? I would have thought that the ideal review would have been an objective one. The only instance where I can imagine 'market positioning' to be relevant might be with, say, Galeon, where their UK importer just went bust, and support may be affected.

What is your impression of Sealine's 'design and build philosophy'?

What are your impressions of the other major names' philosophies?

Why do Princess and Fairline still exist as separate entities, given that they occupy an almost identical market niche, yet are owned by the same parent? Is there something fundamentally different about their philosophies?

What values do you look for in a boat? Why do some manufacturers manage to provide them, yet others do not?

Go on, provoke some useful debate, I dare you.

Re: Be nice to Sealine week?

I am not a Sealine or Princess owner but note both Builders made a similar Flybridge "The 360" both are a similar size perhaps the Princess is a little larger.
While searching for a new boat and selling my Corniche I have noticed the Sealine 360 is priced higher than the Princess 360 of similar vintage.

My point being "it is how much we have made or lost when we sell that is a true indiction of brand success"

Never confuse "asking price" and what the boat is actually worth....

I was only trying to be 'nice' to Sealine.
After all Sealine pay wads of money to advertise in MBM and the cover price would increase without their support, now you are really forcing me to think hard for more nice things to say about Sealine.

That was a joke before too many reply, I looked on a Sealine 360 that was for sale last weekend, they are good boats, and they do get well used.

Princess 360 looked less used but what does that say ?
