Sealine SC39

The Sealine SC39 is now, as far as I know, dropped from the range..
It looks good and is a good sized hardtop.
Seems quite good value secondhand.
Yet very few seem to have been sold, at least by Sealines standards.
Anyone any experiance of this boat? Any drawbacks?

Yes, very good boat, but even better - very popular - Great handling, convertible system, mid cabin and deck practicality.
Now SC38 or S42 is the IN range.

I think they felt too enclosed for people wanting a sporty wind in the hair boat, and those wanting an all weather hardtop favoured the more traditional looking Scandinavian boats. They also came with high performance drive systems, but didn't have the high performance hull, or sporty looks to match.

That's not to say there was anything wrong with them, just a limited market I think.

I remember chatting with a Sealine Dealer when it first came out. My first question was along the lines of "Very nice, but who is it aimed at?". This was before coupe/hardtops were really taking off.

Med boater? Not really enough outdoor lounging area. Sunroof isn't very big.
UK Boater? Maybe. Small sunroof, though.
Scandinavian Boater? Not really rufty tufty / hi performance enough for them.

So, in some ways ahead of it's time, but by the time hardtops started taking off, all the limelight was getting stolen by the newer SC series with their snazzy folding fabric roofs. Net result: not their best selling model.

I think it was aimed at people who wanted a floating cottage. I went on one when it was first launched and couldn't image sitting at the helm when it was at sea.

Actually the helm is one of the good points if you are tall. Very comfy double helm seat (adjustable), throttle levers, plotter, gauges, switches layout very good. Sunroof works a treat for the helm (less so for the cabin).

The concept was/is very good but my personal opinion is that they rushed to the market without ironing out the bugs.

Pity as everybody else seems to be going the HT route these days.

I see what you mean - thing is I never noticed when I we owned the boat and I loved the boy racer helm /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm all grown up now (except for my lust for the Nissan GTR) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
