Sealine S37 may be an option for our next boat with planned use being 75-80 percent inland use and 20-25 percent coastal. Engine options seem to be mainly KAD 44 with a few AD41 (200hp) and a few Mercruisers.

Given the tip about KAD44's suffering from under-lubrication at low speeds (KAMD 44 post) I am thinking AD41's might be the best bet. Simple engine with no electronics to go wrong and ample power for the river but the question is will a pair of 200hp engines be big enough to give decent speed and planing performance in a seaway? Anyone had/got an AD41 engined boat or know how they perform?

Also any knowledge of the Mercruisers would be appreciated. Are they simple engines or more complex like the 44's?

I had AD41's in a Sealine S37 and it went fine, no problem planing and topped out just under 30 kts

Thanks Nick, useful to know. Was performance/speed affected by conditions (sea state) and/or load onboard? Also, do you recall what cruising speed was about right and what revs achieved this?

Many thanks.

How about one with Kad 42s ? will still do about 30 knots.

KAD42's had some problems which were overcome with the KAD43 which is what I have on my S37.
I had the choice when buying my S37 from new (2002) and decided away from the KAD44 because of the electronics, the complexity of valve servicing (every 200 hrs) and the valve problems even with well seviced 44's. (see http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280654)
I also saved £8000 it must be said.
I'm happy with 32 knots top speed and the 43's (230hp) make getting up on the plane easy even with a dirty bottom.
The S37 is truely a great boat, best of luck

Had KAD 42 B's on our last boat and they were good engines. Would consider them and the 43's but none on the market currently. Only downside are the noisy superchargers if they stay on for any period of time e.g rough weather
