Since this has been in production for ages, I hope that a few of you will have/had one of these. Can anybody tell me the performance/consumption on a boat with VP KAD 32's. Are there any major things to look out for and during production does anybody know of any major changes and what years they occured? Assume a 2001 boat.

Hi Jez

I asked exactly the same question last October sometime, should be there if you do a search under me.

If I recall correctly WOT for KAD 32's is about 28 knots cruising 22-25 knots.

I think most changes have been cosmetic, (fabrics and trim etc). Badging and 4 exterior markings can date it. Introduced blue windscreens 2002 I think.

I upgraded my 2855 for 2002 S34 last Autumn and its chalk and cheese really.

Everyone I know who has/had one loves it. Me included

Hey, you can't get an S34, I haven't even tried out the 28 yet ! SWMBO will be jealous...

Personally, I prefer the ones with the Blue & Aluminum dash (2002 onwards): there were some minor cosmetic tweaks to the interior, and that's about it.

Consumption, probably about 20litres an hour at cruise for each engine.

Cant speak about the engines (mine are AD41's), or the age (mine is 2000), but it is a joy to own and use. Cant speak highly enough of it...

They are great boats.

In 2001 the dash in the cockpit was changed to blue from wood and an aluminium face panel was introduced.

My boat is for sale!!!

Ill pm you later with fuel comsumptions taken from my log. give me about an hour to post them on to you.

On KAD32s, the top end flat out is 28 knots. We generally cruise at 24knots.

Fuel comsumptions vary considerably depending how you use the boat. Examples from log book shows a cross channel trip from Salcombe to St Peterport then on to Jersey took 5.7 hours.

The fuel used was 266 litres. The log read distance covered 101 nautical miles.

At home around the Fal estury, when most of the time we are trundling at 5 knots in the rivers fuel consumption will be far less.

My advice if you are looking for an 2001 boat is to get a late 2001 boat or 2002 onwards as it will be easier to sell the up graded cockpit.

Kad 32's a bit small for a 34ft cruiser maybe? More a Fairline 28 Targa sort of engine.

Probably ok when boat clean underneath, not much gear, calm seas, but bit light the rest of the time surely?

Jez, look for one with KADS 44's - much better. PM Powerskipper, her Dad has one with the 44's, I crewed it back from CI's and it was great. You'll get pissed off with the 32's very quickly! Especially after what you've got now.

I'm not aware of any S34's with KAD44's, unless it was a special build. Plenty with KAD43's, which should give 35knots+ on a good day: better than I'm expecting with KAD32's on the 28.

An S34 with KAD43's would be the mutts nuts, so to speak.

And also more to run. I dont go most places at more than about 25knts,

At 25 knots you'll be at top end, with bigger engines you'll have power in reserve and in the longer run be more economical. 32's on the 34 are the "poor mans" option. 32's on the S28, now that's a different kettle of fish. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No, not more to run really. Some more oil to change at service time, but the weight of the engines isn't much different, so an S34 running at 25kts with KAD43's will be drinking almost the same amount of juice than KAD32's running at the same speed, because of the way the fuel consumption curves for diesels rise steeply for the top 20% of the rev range. The main difference is that you have more "in reserve" with the bigger engines, which will be cruising at lower revs.

Also, I think six cylinder diesels sound fab, and are smoother, but that's just personal preference.
