Hello everyone,

fresh newbie is looking for some answers and hints in regards to repowering his old Volvo Penta v6 on a 24ft `93 Sealine s230 he just bought, i hope you can help :)

#1 Has anyone had any experience with these guys and/or engines they sell? http://repower-marine.com/marine-engines/repower-volvo-penta/repower-volvo-penta-v6

#2 I have read quite a few posts about "carb vs injected systems", but still cant make up my mind, which do you prefer & why?

#3 I would like to rebuild/recondition my vp290 duoprop leg. Any advice or suggestions where to do it, so i wouldn't get ripped off and job would be done correctly? (im on East coast)

#4 Any other hints or tips for me in regards to this repowering project? Something i may not think of and regret later on i havnt done it at the time of repowering?

Thanks,
ROLe

-Unless they are clearly new or newish, change the exhaust manifolds and risers; if they fail, you'll get seawater in your nice new engine.

-Consider closed (freshwater) cooling if the boat is to be used in salt water; unfortunately unlike Mercruiser VP don't offer exhaust manifolds and risers for the V6/ V8s that are freshwater cooled (unless it's on one of the late catalytic converter equipped engines).

-Consider fitting the "neutrasalt" system to protect the manifolds/ risers (plus the engine if not freshwater cooled) It's protected my risers and manifolds very well ( OK after 7+ years use in salt water so far)

exhaust manifolds have just been changed (4 weeks ago) on old engine, so they should be fine, risers havnt been changed though..
Ill think about freshwater cooling system for sure!
Ill consider "neutrasalt" system..
Thanks!
