Just called Sealine (Darren Field) for some more technical advice on my 285 Ambassador. As always Darren and the team were very helpful and made me feel like a valued customer even though my boat is over 15 years old! I was saddened to hear that Darren will be leaving in January and wanted to wish him all the best for the future. I don't know if any other forum members have had dealings with Darren but I always was left feeling he had a great passion for the Sealine boats and he will be a great loss.

Known Darren from the day he started at Sealine, I am afraid we will loose a big knowledge base in Jan.

If you have electrical / charging problems I'm still here.

Absolutely agree; I also have a 285 and always found Darren to be most helpful. It was in fact him that directed me in Brian's direction for KDD panel.

As we are taking Sealine can anyone help, I have a 290 ambassador, 1990 I need to re-upholster the back rest in the rear seating area, cant see how to get them off, cant see any bolts or screws, are they just stuck on, if so its pretty good glue

Also sorry to hear of further redundancies at Sealine (and another 275 at Fairline). But do not forget Nick Seabridge Marine who I have always found is a font of knowledge when it comes to Sealine spares.

did our 285 exterior upholstery a few years back and can confirm it is bolted/tab in slot. We had to get into the engine bay an dbend into all sorts of odd angles to loosen some of the nuts.

Sorry to hijack the original item but thanks for the replies to my seating query, If they are bolted I’m going to have to rip them off as I’ve got twin 200hpb diesels there’s no space at all to get up inside the cavity with the engines in.

Apparently.....someone from Sealine went to look at the "still" outstanding faults on my boat......cracked gel coat, and the twisted radar arch amongst them.....

Unconfirmed at the moment...... but he agrees entirely with me that all is not well.......and has sent report to Sealine

And he's on the redundacy list /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ive started to pull the back rests and it looks like there is black glue holding it, but its not moving at all, have another go this weekend. but I do now think they are just glued on. Yes the engines are original I think twin 6 cylinder monsters, not much room in there at all.

ours had bolts and some blobs of sikaflex or what ever it is called. Getting up past th eengines was a challenge but a slim ish person can just do it...not promising you can do it pain free though!

Rather than ripping it off, if you are having it re made using new wood etc you oculd stip off the upholstery then gentry snap apart the plywood backing...would rather do that than rip the bolds out.
