Hi

Shower sump drain pump not working so I splashed out on a new one with the pump having an inbuilt float switch as opposed to the old box that had a separate Mercury type float switch with and separate pump.

However, the New one doesn't work either!!!! I have 12 volts on the two wires going to the box but the pump won't run.

Checked the old floats with a meter and it works switches on and off, tried the old pump direct to a battery, and you've guessed it, that works to but not when in situ.

So, my question is where does the 12 v feed for the pump come from and why won't it run the pump?

Am I picking up a stray voltage from somewhere with my meter? Just shy Of 12v and if that is the case is there a fuse somewhere in the supply circuit?

None of the circuit breakers on the dash seem to have any effect and there are no other switch either in the shower room or on the dash for the shower.... Aargh

Suggestions please. Desperate to get this going as we are planning a trip up river where shore facilities are limited.

Now very puzzled, cheers

The manual shows a 10A breaker for "Shower Pump" (upper right corner of diagram).
Check this hasn't popped out - they are usually located near the main battery switches.

If you are measuring 12v on the wires going to the shower sump pump, there is unlikley to be a problem with a fuse or breaker. More likely it's a high resistance problem caused by corrosion of the wires, leaving them unable to carry enough current to run the pump. Are the end of the supply wires a nice shiny copper/silver or are they black /dull?

I've seen 12v on a wire where the breaker had tripped.
I have no idea where the 12v was coming from, but it didn't stay at 12v if you tried drawing any current

That would concern me more than a non functioning bit of kit. Stray currents on a boat........baaaad

Thanks for the schematic, will kick myself if that breaker has popped, there are a few under the step with the battery isolators, will also clean up the cable ends

Cheers

Even if it is the breaker then you will have a spare when the pump inevitably gives up the ghost.

Not the breaker! Turns out the end of the wires were a little green making a bad connection
New pump and box now in and working

Sorted!

Fake News!

Pump not working

11.7v at the terminals (?) but pump won't run, connect pump to another 12v supply and it spins like it should

Going to rewire the supply to the pump with new cable but any ideas?
