Thank you to all who replied to my "choosing a flybridge"

A bit of the thread was to do with boat speed and sea conditions in UK. As a total novice to motor boating, is there a rule of thumb about of cruising at 25 knots and sea conditions. When do you start slowing down, choppy force 2, force3? force4? 5?
when do you go into displacement mode?

..........So you cant just zoom over to the channel Islands in 3 hrs when you want to???!!

Generally mine with a clean bottom (twin 230hp volvos) will cruise confortably at 24 knts in slight to moderate conditions, say F3-4. With the wind and seas behind you its easier going.
When it gets rougher drop to say 17-19 knts still planning

Now on our journey from Menorca to Del Sol, the leg from Mellorca to Ibiza was the worse. We were heading 240degrees which was exactly where the F5-6 SW wind was coming from. Cresting waves from lots of directions it seemed.
Slowed down to 8-10 kts (displacement)to avoid too much slamming picking your way through the waves trying to find the smaller ones.

Needed to pull back throttles at the top of some crests to bring the nose down a bit thus reducing slamming.

Did 4-5 hours like that, and I assure you the boat coped with it better then me/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The boat is now in contant use as the main school boat and regularly (tomorrow too) makes trips round Europa Point Gibraltar which is pretty lumpy most of the time, due to the rock disturbing the wind flow (east or west) resulting is strong gusts round the rock.

The simplest answer is slow down when you don't feel comfortable anymore. The boat will take twice as much as you can so don't worry that the hull is going to split or anything.
Generally with my Sealine S37 (sports) f5-6 would cause me to slow down. However if this was predicted, I just wouldn't go out in the first place.
