Did anyone else see the article on Evenstar 4 in MBY? I know much of the rectification/upgrade work had been covered on here, but it was still a really good read. Quite inspiring to see what can be done with hard work and application.

Hi Raf I found it a very good read and a credit to the owner - Terry

Yup, I read it too and it was really interesting. Actually I'd rather MBY had more stories about owner refits and other experiences with boats than stories about swanky superyachts which probably only 0.0001% of it's readership could aspire too

+1 for owner refit stories, as a boat owner fetteling & tinkering with my boat is half the pleasure and reading about other owners projects is interesting and inspiring .

Well done Mark, looking forward to reading the article

As an aside I buy PBO every month as there are regular features on "How To"

Come on MBM let's have more of these stories

I guess IPC would state that if they included more PBO stuff in MBM and MBY, they will not sell so much copy? They know their business better than I do. I have got a bit bored with MBM, so just changed to MBY. Fully agree more owners reports/mods/etc will be very good.

I agree, the most interesting topics are practical stories about refits, restorations, re-engining boats, rewiring, installing new systems, etc, etc. I only bought the last issue for the Evenstar 4 article. I buy PBO mostly because of the helpfull and informative articles. I doubt i'll ever buy a brand new boat, and i have very limited interest in over 50ft boat and even less interest in Superyachts. It's nice to dream but...

How kind :)

Yep GRP guy is Paul.

He has just finished the final, major bit of work actually. Had to have the flybridge deck re done as water had got into the balsa core and it had sagged. Not much but enough to puddle in the middle which is irritating.

All finished now bar the "teak" which has been templated and is being made.

Will post some more photos here soon.

Yep - the article was particularly interesting for me.
I saw the boat during her sea trials
I even drove her from the FB whilst everyone else was below checking things out.
At the time she was very tired and in need of some really good old fashioned TLC

Which is exactly what has happened - a real "second" life for the boat
Well done to all concerned

Well done to all concerned

What Hurricane is too modest to say everyone:

He let me and my mechanic stay with him on his lovely Princess
he came on the sea trial and helped with the survey
He went again to the boat to check on something when I was back in the UK
He sat in the negotiation with me and talked frankly with his head
He let me bounce thoughts off him when doing the final deal
He helped get me berthed in st carles
He gave loads of help and advice.

Hurricane is part of the story of Evenstar 4 and I probably wouldn't own her without his help.

Those who know him in real life wont be surprised. And they know he'll probably hate public praise, but hey here's a big thank you :)

Sounds like a top bloke. There are several on here that qualify!

Saw it in the mag and also thought the thread on here was excellent. I don't have the skills/patience to achieve an outcome like that and I have a huge amount of respect for all concerned. The Pics in MBY were also excellent.

Well done to all involved.

To see the previous post about how a fellow boater went out of his way to help is a testament to "our" or even "the" boating community. Well done chaps.

Yep, and to make him really squirm he has given me a hell of a lot of good advice and help in the past; not only did he and his good wife Mary offer to join me and Lorraine on the maiden voyage of my F43 which needed to be brought around from Gibraltar to Sant Carles in February 2011 (500nm), but also a cousin once lost my red ensign overboard complete with SS flagpole on my Targa, when I told Mike nearly two weeks later, he promptly came over complete with his diving kit and retrieved it for me, cleaned up like new! I regard him very highly indeed.......G&T's on you Mike next time we meet :)

Spotted going past the entrance to CYH this evening. She really does look shiny in the "flesh" - once again, congrats.

M

She will all be dressed up for the Southampton Boat Show. Come and see her on the RYA Active Marina pontoon where she is being used for daily training sessions.

Evenstar4 was moored behind me last night in East Cowes, looked very sharp, had a quick chat, nice result and the article does it justic
