Does anyone know the airdraft on a Sealine 305 Statesman, I am thinking of using one on the Norfolk broads and East Coast.
Have noticed a few with Volvo 130hp diesels does anyone know if these are enough for keeping comfortably on the plane or should I stick to just those with 200s

Ian

Can't help you with the air draft but I owned a 305 with AD31 130hp diesels many years ago. In my boat they were plenty powerful enough to keep the boat on the plane. Max speed was around 26knot. I felt the big downside of the 4 cylinder AD31's was that they were noisy thrashy vibey motors in this boat and for that reason alone, IMHO the 6 cylinder AD41 200hp motors are better but it's worth testing a AD31 powered boat to see what you think
Btw the 305 is quite lively to handle at slow speeds because of the windage of the flybridge on a relatively short outdrive powered hull so a bow thruster would be a plus

Hi again, Posted on your Birchwood query.
Newark I think still have a S.305 with ad41's 'Sea Lowe' at £39,950. Boat is ex Hull Marina - sorry another friends boat that was p/x in April !. If your want further info let me know.

Hi, Newarks used list isn't showing it so think it may have sold, thanks for the tip though, only thing concerning me now is the windage and airdraft issues, love the layout of the boat and all in 31', just may have found the model now need to find the boat

Bit under 10 feet with the radar arch lowered (rather time consuming!)
Go for either AD41s or V8 petrols. If you are going to run at low speeds a lot the V8 petrols are nice and quite and a lot less expensive to mend. The AD31s are very noisy.

South Broads and entry to Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth shouldnt cause any problems...check Beccles road bridge though...as all bridges lift or swing. Entry from sea: Gt Yarmouth needs booking 24 hours in advance. Lowestoft lifts at prescribed times....check almanac for details.

Engines not my baby.

There are quite a few forumites in and around the Broads and Gt Yarmouth Lowestoft and always happy to give help and guidance.

Hi good advise from ISIS7,I run with twin AQAD41s Very good for sea work,But if I had to run it on the broads I would go for V8 power Far less smoke?

Ian,
I have a Sealine 30, its the prototype for the 305 but fitted out in timber before they started using fiberglass internal moldings. Air Draft is 9'10" (3mtr) and I can get everywhere exept under Beccles old bridge, Wroxham, Potter Heigham and Ludham Bridges. The transit through Great Yarmouth needs to be timed for the low tides but is not usually a problem.

My engines are AQD40a's, both rebuilt, with 280 power trim legs and she is good for 22 knots + at sea and holds the plan well. I get around 2 miles per gallon at sea, usually cruising at between 18 and 20 knots (but have not checked this out since last engine was rebuilt so sort of expect an improvement) and get around 5 miles per gallon on the river.

The flying bridge gives amazing viewes as it allowes you to see over the banks and I much prefer this to the lower helm.

Coincidentally the boat is currently for sale, PM me if you would like to have some details or a look. It is based at St Olaves.
Regards,
Eddie

sorry havn't been on for a bit but thanks to all,
Have found a couple of 305s to look at and found that we will lose the ant at Ludham which is a shame.
still appears to be the boat of choice, would prefer petrols for river work but am worried about resale not particulaly value just restricting the number of people that will be interested in buying it.

Eddy

currently have a petrol Sealine 255 on the broads so know about the forecourt antics and long arms.

My pms don't appear to be working so if you would send me an email to ianleedham@rcsm.co.uk with a few details only moore at Burgh castle so am that way anyway, may be worth a look
