We currently have a Viking 26 moored on the Thames and would like to upgrade to a boat for tidal Thames/coastal. We are keen on the Sealine 255. Does anyone have advice on what to look for e.g. engine configuration, boat handling, running costs etc?

The Sealine 255 is a great little boat and would handle slightly better than your (outboard?) Viking 26.
If you can find one with a diesel your running costs would be very acceptable all round, but a petrol boat, fine on the river, would be unacceptably high (to me) when running at speed. I learnt my lesson with sea-going petrol boats many years ago, and no longer consider them an option!!
Talk to the people at Racecourse Yacht Basin - they should have all the figures to hand and will probably have one you can 'test drive'.

Trevs right on the petrol, I had one and it cost me £200 to go from Bray to Rochester and back (at 1998 prices!)

Have you consider any alternatives?

For the same money you could probably get a Seamaster 30 with twin diesels, maybe a little less lively but a lot easier on the wallet to run and better on the upper thames.

A bit more accomodation too.

The 255 is a nice boat and will pass anything except a fuel pontoon.
