Hi,
I am thinking of buying a sealine 255 but the boat has no holding tank and I intend to use her inland, does anyone have any knowledge of fitting a tank into a 255 like where to put it and what tank.
Thanks Ian

I wouldn't bother, just rip out sea toilet and fit a Porti Potti, we find one fine for use on the Thames, major work and expense if it wasn't fitted from new.

I'm looking seriously at a Sealine 215 and thinking the same thing as Ian.

However, I know that it is illegal to discharge raw sewerage into inland waterways but I was thinking of just "holding on" until I see a marina or pub! If a holding tank / porta potti is not fitted, can you still get the Boat Saftety Certificate?

phil

I don't think the BSS covers toilets their not a safety issue, but the EA does require that sea toilets are sealed off when on the river. Porti potti is cheap and easy, loads of sanitary stations on the river, there really is no point in having a smelly holding tank.

was told by an obviously very helpfull broker that in fact the broads are classed as sea and as such you are allowed to discharge into the broads, dont know if this is true but it has sort of put me off water sking

did think of that but would prefer to have a pump out facility I know it can be done as I have seen a few advertised with them

Thetford has portapotties designed to be permanently installed and fitted for pumpout. And IMO, on a boat that size, that would be the best option. No plumbing except the pumpout line and vent line...no moving parts to maintain...and the 5-6 gal models hold 50-60 flushes. You'd need at least a 20 gal. tank to hold that many from a marine toilet.

I have a holding tank in my bayliner, I can confirm that they are only smelly first flush after being left for a week, it is caused by seawater in pipe going bad !!

do all sealines not have a holding tank ??

that particular smell is not from the holding tank and is common on all sea toilets.

Have seen a couple of Thames 255s with holding tanks but dont know whether they were factory or retro fitted, dont think many of the little sports cruisers are fitted as standard with a holding tank even now but it was very rare in 1990

Thank you sealine, can confirm that after a call to sheppards, Sealine themselves gave me a call with all the drawings for the tank, exactly where to put it and what fittings to use
