Hi folks,

I have a 1992 Sealine 220 with a Volvo 431 V6 petrol. Nice li'l boat, but the tacho has a life all of its own. When the ignition is off it reliably informs me that the engine is doing 4,100 rpm. When the ignition is switched on it drops to zero, then on start-up it usually plumps for something like 3,000 rpm even though no throttle is required and the engine is obviously idling. As things warm up the needle usually drops to something like the truth, but then out and about it will sometimes creep up to 5,500 and stay there unless I come to a complete stop, and frankly I don't believe it was doing 5,500 in the first place anyway.

What do I need to do to get something reminiscent of the truth from the damned thing?! New tacho, cable, sender (wherever/whatever that is)? Any thoughts appreciated!

Sounds to me like one of the timing components in the Tach has gone intermittant.
Either repair or replcement is neigh, doa web seaarch for Speedy Cables as they've repaired stuff for me in the past for reasonable money.
