Hi Folks.
We've had our boat for about a year and soon after her arrival it became obvious that the battery charger was missing! Apparently it was removed a few years back and the need to replace it never occurred.
In our desire to have a fully functioning vessel we bought a Sterling 20amp charger. However there are one or two question which I thought I'd present to the collective!
Originally there was a Yellow/Red wire leading from the Sealine charger to the engine coil solenoid, presumably to prevent the engine from starting with the charger on. On the Sterling device there's no obvious connection. My thinking is that the old charger probably provided a 12(ish) volt supply down this wire that operated the solenoid. Would you agree? And if so, can anybody think of a reason why this wouldn't work if I attached the wire to one of the charger outputs?
Secondly, on the original Sealine wiring diagram there are three red high power cables running from the charger. One to each of the battery banks and a third to the 12volt distribution system, presumably powering the 12v side in the event of no batteries being fitted/switched on. Our 'issue' is that there are only two such cables where the charger should be. I was thinking that maybe one is an output to both battery banks that splits further up the line?? Any ideas?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, a problem shared is a problem halved as they say!
Incidentally, if anybody in the Southampton(ish) area has a Sealine 220 (or possibly a 218/215) with a shore power system that I could have a quick glance at, I really would be most grateful!!
Kind regards as always!!
