Sealift cowes advise

I have a sealift booked in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone can offer any advise on what to expect when I arrive. Do I need fenders and warps out ?

I will ring to confirm nearer the time and ask the question. just pondering at the moment.

No fenders needed, you just drive between two lage padded up rights which wedge you, they then hand you fore and aft warps to make fast. Its best if you have an accurate beam measurement so they can preset the width of the uprights

I used it for the first time on Saturday, and it was a doddle. As last poster said, just drive between the upright beams and aim to stop more or less when the arms are on your beam. Only thing you need to consider in advance is the direction of your approach (into the tide). The guys there are very helpful. Might be worth having spare anodes so they can swap them over if yours are wasted. You can wait on the boat, or get off, whichever you fancy. Much better than the old lift-and-hold method.

When you leave, reverse out (with the tide).

Thank's.... I will be arriving roughly an hour after HW on a neap tide so don't think the tide should be much to worry about. The chap I spoke to asked me the measurments of my beam, so he could adjust the uprights.

Hope to change my saildrive and prop anodes while i'm there. I suspect i won't be aloud to change the oil in the saildrive due to pollution issues.

Got a very dirty bottom at the moment, but not for long /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We used them on Bank Holiday Monday. Lifted, scrubbed, I changed the prop anode (I had the wrong one but we popped along to a local chandler and bought the right one) and back in within an hour. Really helpful chap called Ralph. Highly recommended.

Just tie a bin liner around the saildrive leg and catch the oil in that, we support the bag in a bucket hanging from the prop. Tricky bit is to catch the drain screw before it ends up at the bottom of the oil
