could anyone help with the name of a company that retails sealants. There was a company that advertised in PBO called something like "marine sealants" looked on web but cannot find. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Try the marine directory...

If the company advertised in PBO, they'll probably be listed in the YBW Marine Directory. Click on the "Companies & products" link at the top of this page, and you can then search the directory.

most common sealants in use in UK are:

Sikaflex (available widely)
Boatlife (a lot of chandlers)
Wurth (limited distribution, but good value for money)
B&Q (wide distribution, limited capability!)

Personally I prefer to use an adhesive/sealant and use Wurth.

Marine & Industrial LLP
Station Road,
Worstead,
North Walsham,
Norfolk
Tel:01692 406822
Fax: 01692 406866

These friendly chaps distribute a wide range of marine sealents which include 'RHODORSIL' which is a high modulus marine silicone sealent to BS5889 type B or ISO 11600
for use above and below the water line!!!!

From what I've seen of Travis Perkins, it will be even more expensive!

Silicone is not just one formulation. The stuff used for bathrooms is not formulated to deal with constant immersion and pressure. But its your boat.........................

boat doctor,, it was marine and industrial sealants, thanks, they recommended a sealant between rubbing strake and steel painted hull and it was good.

Doesnt suprise me . Travis Perkins are buying all the small building yards with the intention of being able to set the prices on everything from a bag of sand to a m of timber . /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
